Message Notes
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ
Romans 5:1
If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
Romans 12:18
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7

Bottom Line

God’s peace is available in every circumstance.

You can’t create a peace that “transcends all understanding,” you have to receive it.

Experiencing the peace of God is rooted in having peace with God.

The ability to receive God’s peace is not dependent on your circumstances, but it can be effected by your circumstances.

The peace of God is meant to be experienced now.

Action Steps

Pray

  • How might God be inviting you to simplify or reduce things in your life to be more open to experience His presence and peace?
  • What idols are you tempted to turn to for worldly peace?
  • Where is God inviting you to become more grounded in who He says you are?

Practice

  • Practice turning to God for peace before you turn to something else this week.
  • Create some space to sit silently in God’s presence and receive His peace. Try one of these exercises:
    • Visualize releasing your worry, concern, anxiety, thoughts, feelings, etc. to God. Then ask Him to fill you with His peace. Spend a few minutes resting in God’s presence.
    • Practice thankfulness by thanking God for the blessings in your life. Get as specific as possible.
    • Set a timer on your phone and just try to sit silently with an awareness of God’s presence. When you get distracted pray “Lord Jesus Christ” while you breathe in and then “give me your peace” as you breathe out. Repeat that prayer until you settle into God’s presence again.
