Message Notes
Then Jesus told them, “This very night you will all fall away on account of me, for it is written:
“‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’
But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.”
Peter replied, “Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will.”
“Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.”
But Peter declared, “Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you.” And all the other disciples said the same.

Matthew 26:31-35

Lament is a biblical, healthy way of stripping away our tendency to fake it in order to experience God's loving presence.

Reflection 1

Where do you avoid meeting God in reality?

How does faking it show up for you in your connection with God?

What good work does that avoidance do for you?

Reflection 2

Spend the next few minutes being as real as you can with God. Confess whatever thoughts and feelings you've been avoiding

Don't worry about what you're saying, how you're saying it, or what you know the 'right answer' to be.

Reflection 3

Name specifically what you want God to do for you.

Put yourself in a position to receive whatever it is God wants to do in you.

  • Silently listen
  • Journal on a piece of paper or your phone
  • Dwell in a passage of Scripture (try Psalm 23 if you don't know what to read)
