Bottom Line

We have an opportunity to light up the world with the love of Jesus.

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:13-16

Followers of Jesus are to be distinct from the world while engaging the world.

Don’t be a secret disciple.

There’s to be no such thing as a secret disciple.

Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
Matthew 6:1

Action Steps

PRAYER: create some space with Jesus to prayerfully work through the following:

• Do I look good different from the world? Am I truly distinct in a Jesus-looking way?
• Am I engaged in the world? Have I hived myself off or separated from the world?
• Am I secret disciple? Is it obvious I’m a disciple of Jesus because that is who I am?

PRACTICE: Find one way to bless someone this week in a way that benefits them and points to Jesus.
