Be Still
Find a quiet place where you won’t be interrupted. Get comfortable. Let your body relax and your mind quiet down. Take a few deep breaths and then ask God to make his presence known to you. Be still. Take some time to sit and soak up God’s presence.
Prayer of Approach
O God, whose kingdom is truth and love, help me in this hour to see more clearly and to journey more consistently along the narrow way that leads to life eternal. Equip me for the tests and rigors of this day. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
Psalm 33
Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous;
it is fitting for the upright to praise him.
Praise the Lord with the harp;
make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre.
Sing to him a new song;
play skillfully, and shout for joy.
For the word of the Lord is right and true;
he is faithful in all he does.
The Lord loves righteousness and justice;

We wait in hope for the Lord;

Devotional Thought
When we come out of Egypt we are called by God to freedom, total freedom, true freedom, eternal freedom. But in order to become free—what a task, what a struggle, what a purging! Liberation from the clutches of the senses is no small thing for sensual creatures like us. To reach the "night of the senses''—the time when we become rulers of our passions and are able to resist the extravagances of taste and physical pleasure.
But this is nothing yet. This is only the beginning- baby stuff, you might say. There's more to come! There is another darker, much more painful night. It is the “night of the soul," the night in which we chatterboxes have to learn to keep still. We who are so ready to ask for things—now we shall not dare to ask. We fall silent, thunderstruck with the grandeur that confronts us: God. The night of the spirit is the mature ability of the human being to love God in the dark, to accept the design even without seeing it, to bear the distance without complaining, even when love thrusts us towards him until we writhe with longing.

Luke 18:1-8
Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’
“For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”
And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”
Reflection
Take time to pause and reflect on your time with Jesus through the Scriptures and devotional thought. What thoughts are being drawn out of you? What emotions are being provoked? What might God be saying? Consider using a journal to write as you process, reflect, and pray.
Time for Prayer
God invites us to cast our cares on him because he cares for us. God is all-together good, already knows what we need, and is eager to give us good things. So we don’t need to pray out of anxiety or fear, but confident trust. Spend a few minutes making your requests known to God.

Thank you, my Lord, for this time of rest and nourishment. Now send me to my station; help me that I neither slip nor wander from the road you have marked out for me. Amen.
