Parents, make sure you read through the content before starting the activity with your family. For each color, you will talk about the big idea, read some Scripture, and then pour the colored sand into the bottle. Once you start pouring sand it’s best not to jostle the bottle too much or the sand will just mix together. We suggest leaving the bottle on the table or holding it and then helping your kids pour the sand.

In the beginning, God created everything in the whole world. Pour the green sand into the jar and say together “God created us to be with Him”. Read Genesis 1:26-27 together: “Then God said, “Let us make human beings so that they are like us. Let them rule over the fish in the seas and the birds in the sky. Let them rule over the livestock and all the wild animals. And let them rule over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created human beings in his own likeness. He created them to be like himself. He created them as male and female.”

What are some of your favorite things God created?
Why do you think God created people?
What do you think it means to be friends with God?
God gives us freedom to live our lives the way we want to and sometimes that means people choose to live differently than the way God says is best. The Bible calls our actions ‘sin’ anytime we disobey God or don’t love our neighbors the way He’s called us to. Read Romans 5:8 together: “But here is how God has shown his love for us. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” God always wants to be around us, even when we sin! But sin separates us from God because when we sin, we choose our way instead of His way and avoid staying close to Him. Pour the black sand into the jar and say together “Our sin separates us from God”

What’s one way you’ve seen the bad effects of sin in your school, your life, or the world around us?
God loves us too much to leave us in our sin. Jesus went to the cross to set us free from the power of sin. His sacrifice made a way for us to receive forgiveness for all the wrong things we’ve done. Read Hebrews 9:14 together: “But Christ offered himself to God without any flaw. He did this through the power of the eternal Holy Spirit. So how much cleaner will the blood of Christ make us! It washes away our feelings of guilt for committing sin. Sin always leads to death. But now we can serve the living God.” Pour the red sand into the jar and say together “Jesus paid the price for our sins”.

Why do you think Jesus offered himself as a sacrifice for us?
How does it make you feel to think about what Jesus did for us on the cross?
When we choose to follow Jesus and accept his sacrifice, we are washed clean of our sin. It will never be held against us anymore. Read I John 1:8-9 together: “Suppose we claim we are without sin. Then we are fooling ourselves. The truth is not in us. But God is faithful and fair. If we confess our sins, he will forgive our sins. He will forgive every wrong thing we have done. He will make us pure.” When God forgives you, it means He sees you as clean and spotless, just like Jesus! Pour the white sand into the jar and say together “When we trust in Jesus our sins are forgiven”.

Why do you think it’s important to tell God when we’ve sinned and ask Him for forgiveness?
Have you ever asked God for forgiveness? Parents this would be a great time for you to share a time you had to ask God for forgiveness as well!
Sin doesn’t just effect your relationship with God, it also keeps you from living the kind of life God created you to live. When God sets us free from sin He’s also setting us free to live a new life, focused on serving and loving others. Read Revelation 21:3-5: I heard a loud voice from the throne. It said, “Look! God now makes his home with the people. He will live with them. They will be his people. And God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death.’ And there will be no more sadness. There will be no more crying or pain. Things are no longer the way they used to be.” He who was sitting on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down. You can trust these words. They are true.” Pour the gold sand into the jar and say together “Life in God’s Kingdom starts now and lasts forever”

What are some things that would be different about your life if you were doing what God wanted you to do 100% of the time? Parents don’t use this as a chance to bring up all the things you’re mad at your kids about. This conversation should be full of grace and gentleness if they’re having a hard time thinking of things.

We look to the Apostles’ Creed, an affirmation that has held the church together for almost 2,000 years, to define the essentials of our faith.
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
And born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
And is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
The holy catholic Church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body,
And the life everlasting.
Amen.
We often get questions about how our faith intersects with different questions and ideas swirling around in our culture. The topics below are not necessarily the most important beliefs about what it means to be a follower of Jesus, just the ones we get the most questions about.
At Crosspoint we believe that our position on cultural issues matters. We believe God’s ways are the best way to live life and therefore want to accurately know what He says.
We also believe that our posture towards people is just as important.
Jesus was uncompromising in teaching and calling people to align with his beliefs because he wanted them to experience the life they were created for. The sinners, prostitutes, tax collectors, and normal every day people were captivated by Jesus and wanted to follow him. The Pharisees held many of the same positions and beliefs that Jesus did, and yet many people felt alienated by them.
The biggest difference between the Pharisees and Jesus wasn’t their position (though they did disagree about some pretty important things). The biggest difference was their posture. The Pharisees’ posture was characterized by pride, judgment, and looking down on sinners, while Jesus’ posture was characterized by love and compassion.
We want to be a community that is living into the positions and postures of Jesus. We hold to our beliefs with conviction and love towards those who disagree with us.
One last note: if you have any questions, please reach out to us. We want to be as clear as possible so that you can best discern what it looks like to be part of our community. However, there’s only so much that can be communicated in a couple paragraphs on a website. Many of these topics are complex and are best discussed with a lot of humility, listening, and a little bit of coffee.
You can find all the position papers on the Christian & Missionary Alliance’s website.
